Richmond County’s Wilkerson serving as vice president of state emergency association

ROCKINGHAM — Richmond County Emergency Services Deputy Director Travis “T.J.” Wilkerson has been sworn in to serve as the first vice president of the North Carolina Chapter of the National Emergency Number Association.

This is yet another major accomplishment for Richmond County Emergency Services as they continue to grow the 911 industry not only locally, but across the State of North Carolina.

Wilkerson, a 14-year veteran employee, began his career with Emergency Services in 2010 as a night shift telecommunicator. Since then, he has served in many roles, working his way through the ranks to include training officer and deputy director.

Wilkerson was among the second class to graduate from Richmond Community College’s Public Safety Answering Point Managers Program and has also obtained his Center Management Certification Program. Wilkerson also holds many other certifications including communications training officer, emergency medical and fire dispatch quality assurance (certifications, as well as numerous emergency management credentials.

County Manager Bryan Land said, “This is yet another testimony to the great work being done by our Emergency Services staff here in Richmond County.”

Bob Smith, director of Emergency Services said, “T.J. is a great role model and teacher to his peers and sets the bar high for professionalism in the 9-1-1 Industry.” Director Smith went on to say, “T.J. brings strong Christian values and morals, and a love for Richmond County that help him make sound decisions on behalf of the agency, and we are proud to have him as part of the team!”
