ROCKINGHAM — Republican gubernatorial candidate and current Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson is scheduled to be in Richmond County on Friday.
Robinson is scheduled to be at La Cabana in Rockingham at 1 p.m., according to a social media post from the Richmond County Republican Party. The campaign website, markrobinsonfornc.com, shows no current events.
The visit comes a week after CNN reported that Robinson made comments that were “gratuitously sexual and lewd in nature” on the adult website “Nude Africa” from 2008-2012 — before he entered politics — using the name “minisoldr.”
Robinson has denied all the claims made in the CNN article, calling them “salacious lies.”
“I will not let these attacks distract us from sharing a better future for our state,” Robinson said in a Sept. 24 statement announcing that he had hired Binnall Law Group “to investigate where and how these false smears originated.”
The candidate added that plans to “use every legal means to hold CNN accountable for their lies.”
In a Sept. 26 Facebook post, Robinson said the media was “working hand-in-hand with Josh Stein to distract the public from the real issues facing the great people of North Carolina.”
Stein, currently the state attorney general, is running on the Democratic Party ticket.
Robinson, who became the state’s first black lieutenant governor in 2020, became a viral sensation when he gave an impassioned pro-gun speech in front of the Greensboro City Council.
While running for lieutenant governor, Robinson spoke at a campaign event for state Rep. Ben Moss.
