ROCKINGHAM — The second concert of the city’s Plaza Jam summer series has been canceled as a result of restrictions due to COVID-19 pandemic.

Events Coordinator Kim Williams made the announcement in an email Tuesday afternoon.

The Entertainers, who last performed at Plaza Jam in 2017, were slated to take the stage in Cole Plaza on June 4.

“Our community’s safety and well-being is our top priority,” Williams said in the email.

Gary Lowder and Smokin’ Hot were originally scheduled to open the 2020 season in May. Lowder is a former member of The Entertainers.

Gov. Roy Cooper slightly eased restrictions recently on outdoor mass gatherings from 10 to 25 as part of his second phase of re-opening. Plaza Jam usually boasts a crowd of several hundred.

Restaurants and salons were also recently allowed to re-open at partial capacity. Bars and gyms are among the businesses kept closed since March 15 by the governor.

“We will announce details about the July concert in the coming weeks,” Williams said. “(U)ntil then, stay well!”

She posted the same message on the Plaza Jam Facebook page.

Craig Woolard and The Embers are supposed to be playing July 2, according to the concert schedule, followed by The Tonez in August, The Tams in September, and North Tower Band in October.

All four bands performed at Plaza Jam in 2019.
