ROCKINGHAM — Crews from two departments battled a blaze at a former nursing home.

The Rockingham and Cordova fire departments responded to a structure early Tuesday evening on County Home Road, across the road from FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital-Richmond — the site of the former Covington’s Rest Home.

According to a Facebook post from RFD, there were flames through the roof of a two-story building on the site when crews arrived.

The fire is under control and the crews are searching the abandoned structure.

Drivers are urged to use caution driving through the area.
