ROCKINGHAM — A man is out on bail after being charged in an April shooting incident.
According to arrest warrants, Michael Anthony Ferguson, of Rockingham, assaulted a man with a pink handgun and shot into a home on Broad Leaf Drive in Hamlet on April 24.
The caliber of the handgun was not specified in warrants.
Ferguson was arrested Sept. 14 and charged with one count each of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury, discharging a firearm into an occupied dwelling or moving vehicle and possession of a firearm by a felon.
He was booked into the Richmond County Jail under a $30,000 secured bond and released on bail Sept. 16.
Ferguson was ordered not to have any contact with the victim or be in possession of any firearms.
He is scheduled to appear in court Oct. 1.
Online court records show Ferguson has no other pending charges.
Ferguson was first convicted of simple assault in 1994, according to records with the N.C. Department of Public Safety Division of Adult Correction.
In 1998, he was convicted of his first felony for possession with intent to sell a controlled substance.
He was convicted in April 2001 of felony breaking and entering. Initially given probation, he wound up behind bars that July when it was revoked, serving nearly six months.
Ferguson was convicted in 2003 of assault on a female and possessing stolen goods, both misdemeanors. His probation on those convictions was also revoked, resulting in his being incarcerated for four and a half months.
In 2005, he was convicted of assault inflicting serious injury. Again, he was given probation, which was revoked two years later in Guilford County, which led to a 15-month lockup.
All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
