ROCKINGHAM — Democratic Congressional candidate Dan McCready will swing through Richmond County next week to speak with voters.
Rockingham is listed as the first stop in a three-county tour on the candidate’s schedule, with the other stops being in Scotland and Bladen counties.
The meet-and-greet will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Hudson Brothers Deli, where the congressional hopeful will speak about “his plan to lower healthcare costs, strengthen public schools, and create good-paying jobs.”
McCready is also slated to visit voters in Mecklenburg, Union, Anson and Robeson counties. The district also includes part of Cumberland County.
He is running again to represent North Carolina’s 9th Congressional District, a seat that has been vacant since January.
McCready narrowly lost to former Republican candidate the Rev. Mark Harris in November and conceded, but withdrew the concession once questions were raised about voting improprieties in Bladen and Robeson counties.
The North Carolina State Board of Elections refused to certify the results and called for a new election.
Harris decided not to run again due to poor health.
State Sen. Dan Bishop won the Republican primary from a field of 10 candidates — half of who lived outside the district — in May.
Two third-party candidates are also in the race: Jeff Scott of the Libertarian Party, who ran in the original election; and Allen Smith of the Green Party.
The election will be Sept. 10.
