Rockingham Police charge man after chase with van stolen from Hamlet

ROCKINGHAM — An Anson County man is facing charges in Richmond after allegedly leading police on a chase in a stolen vehicle.

Rockingham Police officers on Friday responded to an area of U.S. 74 Business near Sports Cycles in reference to locating a stolen vehicle out of Hamlet, according to an incident report.

A 2005 Dodge Caravan was reportedly stolen by 22-year-old Timothy Maurice Streater, of Morven.

Streater is accused of failing to stop for the officers’ blue lights and sirens during the chase, which exceeded speeds of 90 mph, according to the report. The van sustained an estimated $2,000 in damage during the pursuit.

Police eventually stopped Streater and arrested him on the following charges: larceny of a motor vehicle; possession of a stolen motor vehicle; fleeing to elude arrest with a motor vehicle; reckless driving with wanton disregard; aggressive driving; and injury to person property.

He was booked into the Richmond County Jail under a $100,000 secured bond.

Records show Streater was also served with charges out of Anson (breaking and entering, larceny after breaking and entering, possession of stolen goods or property) and Union (resisting a public officer, assault on a government employee) counties.

He was given a $10,000 secured bond on the Anson charges and a $5,000 secured bond on the Union charges.

Streater is scheduled to appear in court March 12 in Richmond County, March 17 in Anson County and March 23 in Union County, according to online records.

Records with the N.C. Department of Public Safety show Streater has previous convictions in Anson County.

In 2016, he was convicted of three misdemeanors — trespassing, second-degree trespassing, and damage to property — and was given probation.

The following year, Streater was convicted on three felonies: second-degree burglary; possession of burglary tools; and credit card theft.

Records show he was incarcerated for one year and one week and his parole ended nearly a year ago.

All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
