ROCKINGHAM — A police officer responding to a larceny call made a drug arrest last week.
According to an incident report from the Rockingham Police Department, an officer was responding to a larceny at Walgreen’s Aug. 1 when he discovered 29-year-old Edward Eugene Loftis had an unspecified amount of heroin in his possession.
The officer also seized a variety of paraphernalia including a syringe, metal spoons plastic straw, metal pick, scissors, a metal tin and a plastic circular container, according to the report.
Loftis was arrested and charged with possession of heroin, a felony, and possession of drug paraphernalia, a misdemeanor. He was booked into the Richmond County Jail under a $15,000 secured bond.
Online records show Loftis has no other pending charges in the state.
According to records with the N.C. Department of Public Safety Division of Adult Correction, Loftis’ only prior conviction was in 2015 on a Level 5 DWI in New Hanover County.
All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
