ROCKINGHAM — Police have released a few details related to murder charge filed late last week.
According to Rockingham Police Chief Billy Kelly, officers responded on Oct. 1 to a call at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital-Richmond regarding a 2-year-old child who was pronounced dead on arrival.
The RO has obtained the name of the child through an arrest warrant, but has chosen to withhold it.
A warrant charging 28-year-old Gerald Shawnrhea Bloomfield with first-degree murder was issued Oct. 4.
Bloomfield, of Cheraw, South Carolina, was arrested that day and booked into the Richmond County Jail where he is being held without bond. He is scheduled to appear in court Oct. 24.
Kelly said the case is still under investigation and more information will be released as it progresses.
Online records with the N.C. Court System and South Carolina Judicial Branch show he has no other pending charges and records with the N.C. Department of Public Safety Division of Adult Correction show he has not previously been convicted here.
All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
