Rockingham Police investigating Dollar General robbery

ROCKINGHAM — Police are investigating a late-night robbery at a retail store last week.

The Dollar General on East Broad Avenue was robbed sometime between 10-11 p.m. Thursday night, according to an incident report.

The responding officer took the report and contacted the on-call detective who also responded, the report reads. A K-9 was also used to try and track down the suspect.

Police on Friday would not give any more details.

The case was still under investigation as of early Monday afternoon.

The same store was broken into around 2:30 a.m. on May 25, where the thief reportedly stole 

a cellphone, 25 cigarillos and 60 packs of Newport cigarettes.

Another nearby chain retailer was also recently stolen from.

More than $1,000 in tools were taken from Lowe’s Home Improvement, which is in the same shopping center as Dollar General, on Aug. 4, according to an incident report.

The stolen items included a DeWalt 5-tool combo kit, two DeWalt Compact 6-tool kits and three turtles.

That case was still marked as active on Friday.
