ROCKINGHAM — Thursday morning couldn’t seem to get here fast enough for many faithful diners of the Holiday Restaurant.
This popular restaurant has been serving a diverse menu of home-cooked-style meals for many years.
Followers of the popular eatery had been watching on social media for the official announcement about the reopening. Other regulars said they “just kept riding by every day hoping to see the restaurant open again.”
It was obvious that the Holiday was undergoing some major renovations after the recent sale from former owners Kevin and Wanda Perry to new owners Jeremy and Lindsay Gibson.
The Holiday Restaurant still has the same floor plan, with the bar stools to the left as you enter, the smaller booths to the right, the cozy corner booth just right for a small family, and to the far right, the large dining room with tables and booths available.
The walls have been painted white, the booths and tables are gray and new ceiling fans were placed in the large dining room to give the restaurant a fresher feel.
Waitresses were scurrying about, taking orders, pouring hot coffee, and serving meals. Many folks expressed to the wait staff that they were happy to see the restaurant open again and they had missed dining there.
Even though the Holiday had been closed less than a month, you could see that dining here was a part of their regular schedule.
New owners Jeremy and Lindsay Gibson walked around, speaking with folks as they ate their breakfasts, and introducing themselves to newcomers.
Jeremy Gibson was a general manager at FATZ Cafe, and worked out his notice there after finalizing the purchase of the Holiday.
His first job at the age of 16 was at the Holiday waiting tables. After finishing school, he went on to work as a manager in various restaurants in Moore County, including Lone Star Steakhouse, Ruby Tuesday’s and Chili’s. Jeremy Gibson now has 14 years of management experience, and is looking forward to the challenge of his own restaurant.
The restaurant hours will be 5:30 a.m.-2 p.m. Sunday through Wednesday, and 5:30 a.m.-8:30 p.m. Thursday through Saturday.
“We have the same staff and the same menu,” he said. “You will see cosmetic changes, but everything else we want to keep in place. Consistency is important in our industry, knowing you will get a good meal and good service every time. Feedback from our guests will be welcomed.”
