ROCKINGHAM — Another local church is putting what Christ preached into practice to “fill a need” in the community.

Next month, Rockingham Wesleyan Church will open its Clothing Exchange Closet to provide for those who may need help.

“It’s just a way to serve our community,” said Pastor Harold Bumby, who came to the church seven months ago.

Bumby said the church wanted to “be obedient to the Lord’s word,” citing Mathew 25:40 (KJV): “ … inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.”

The pastor said the church is “ready to roll” with a selection of adult and children’s clothing and some other miscellaneous items, including belts, socks and bedding.

The ministry’s motto, “Leave some or take some,” is an encouragement for both donors and those who could benefit, according to Bumby.

“We’re not only looking for donations … (but we want to) let people who need it know it’s available,” he said.

The closet will be located in the church’s Sunday school building, which should soon have a banner hanging on the side, at 618 N. Lee St. in Rockingham.

It opens Aug. 5 and will operate from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. each Monday. Bumby said the hours could change depending on demand.
