ROCKINGHAM — The Richmond Observer announced late Monday night that the company has hired Russell Parker of Rockingham to become its Executive Producer for the Live at 5 nightly news program which debuts this Monday, August 7 as the first televised nightly-news program in the history of Richmond County.

Parker, who is a current student at UNC Pembroke, is a Richmond County native who currently studies communications and broadcasting at the university. He was born and raised in Richmond County, and is excited to fulfill his career and passion at home.

“I have always loved Richmond County,” Parker said. “It makes me extremely happy to be able to help the Observer fulfill its mission in making Richmond County shine through producing its video programming, and I am eager to get to work.”

Parker will begin work immediately in preparation for the premiere of The Richmond Observer video division’s flagship program, Live at 5. Lance Jenkins, co-founder of The Richmond Observer, will anchor Live at 5 when the show debuts this Monday night at 5:00pm.

“We are extremely excited to bring Russell on board and believe we have the right guy in place to make Live at 5 a tremendous show,” said Jenkins. “Russell brings a knowledge of broadcasting and communications well beyond his years, and is going to be a great asset for the Observer and this county.”

Parker becomes the first Executive Producer in The Richmond Observer‘s history, and will directly oversee filming, editing, and producing of the flagship program Live at 5. As the Observer continues to grow its video division this fall, Parker will also oversee other programming projects that follow. The second program, expected to debut this fall, will be an hour-long sports show that focuses on all Richmond Raiders sports as well as NASCAR and other college and pro league sports tied to the area. The show’s title is yet to be released, but an announcement is expected sometime in August.

Live at 5 and other video programming created by The Richmond Observer will be available on richmondobserver.com, The Richmond Observer iPhone/Android app, and on The Richmond Observer‘s YouTube channel. More ways to watch Live at 5 and other programming will become available in the near future.

Live at 5 premieres this Monday night, August 7 at 5:00pm.
