Richmond County, N.C., August 9, 2018 – The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office encourages all residents to take advantage of a FREE online system that will help keep track of valuable, and invaluable, personal property.

ReportIt is a FREE, secure online service allowing residents to record serial numbers, owner applied numbers, scans of receipts and upload photographs of phones, electronics, and other valuables recorded with the service.  Should those items ever be stolen, the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office says having the identifying information for your property will go a long way in accurately and quickly identifying your property.

The property inventory system is completely Internet based, so residents do not need to worry about losing the data they have recorded and saved.  Residents can access the site at reportit.leadsonline.com and create an individual secure account to use the system.

“I encourage all residents of Richmond County to take full advantage of this free online system to register your valuables.  By creating an account and recording the serial numbers and description of your property, detectives will have the ability to more effectively assist in recovering your property if and when the items are stolen.  I believe both residents and businesses, located in Richmond County, would benefit by utilizing this service that is available to them,” explains Sheriff James E. Clemmons Jr.  “A link to this service has been added to the Quick Links on our agency’s website, richmondcountysheriff.net, which will direct residents to the LeadsOnline ReportIt Citizen Property Inventory System website for their convenience.”

The ReportIt service is a part of LeadsOnline, the online system that works with law enforcement agencies across the nation to track down and recover stolen property.  The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office is one of those agencies which uses LeadsOnline to help track and recover stolen property, everything from jewelry to sporting equipment to electronics, computers, cameras, motorcycles, four wheelers, and other items such as designer clothing, collectibles, and other items with invaluable personal worth.  The system allows detectives to search for the items using a variety of parameters, including item descriptions and serial numbers.  When an item is sold to a pawn or secondhand shop, the product information is entered into the LeadsOnline database and is immediately viewable by participating law enforcement agencies across the country.

The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office has used LeadsOnline for several years and has had successes using the online investigations system.  Using LeadsOnline, detectives have recovered multiple items of stolen property for Richmond County residents and for residents of surrounding jurisdictions.

While no one expects or desires to be the victim of a property crime, if or when it does happen, residents need to be prepared and able to provide information to law enforcement and your insurance provider to assist in identifying their property.  Recently, the LeadsOnline system helped detectives, with the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office, recover property stolen from a residence within the county the day following the theft.  The information obtained by utilizing LeadsOnline assisted in the recovery of property, allowed for the property to be returned to the owner and for prosecution of the person responsible for the theft of the property.  Recovered items, located through the LeadsOnline service, have included valuable jewelry, camera, gaming consoles, construction equipment, iPods, tools, computers and GPS units.  With information provided by LeadsOnline, law enforcement tracks down thieves, develop leads in numerous cases and make arrests.

ReportIt is FREE and available to residents in the jurisdictions LeadsOnline serves, and each account may store up to 100 items.  If you need additional storage, just email LeadsOnline at citizen@leadsonline.com.  Both corporate and small business accounts are available upon request.  Residents can store an unlimited number of serial numbers, item descriptions, pictures, and scans of receipts so items may be more easily identified in the event of theft.  This record may also come in handy when filing claims with insurance providers in the event of loss.  Citizens wanting to participate in ReportIt can register for the FREE service at reportit.leadsonline.com and begin building their personal property inventory list.
