ROCKINGHAM — United Way of Richmond County is currently seeking sponsors for the annual Stuff the Bus campaign.

The effort, organized by the UWRC, Richmond County Schools and Walmart, is now in its 14th year of helping make sure local students have what they need as school starts back.

Each year, a RCS bus is parked in front of Walmart and filled with a variety of items, often including paper, notebooks, pencils, markers, crayons, glue sticks and more.

The names of the sponsors are plastered on the windows and sides of the bus.

Last year, UWRC Executive Director Michelle Parrish said there were 53 sponsors — “the most we’ve ever had.”

As of Wednesday afternoon, Parrish said there were 20 sponsors. However, she’s hoping to have at least as many as in 2021.

Most of last year’s sponsors made monetary donations totalling around $9,000 and two donated supplies directly.

Sponsorships range from $75 for a partial passenger window to $350 for the windshield or hood of the bus.

For more information, contact Parrish at 910-997-2173 or michelleparrish@bellsouth.net; or Ginny Sellers with Richmond County Schools at 910-582-560 or ginnysellers@richmond.k12.nc.us.
