TOP STORY: Rockingham Man Sustains Self-Inflicted Neck Wounds

UPDATE AT 2:10 p.m.

ROCKINGHAM – Rockingham Police Department has released the name and updated status of the man who sustained self-inflicted wounds to his neck at the West Side Shell Station Tuesday night.

Homer Lee Windham, of Rockingham, made an attempt to take his own life at the Shell Station. Detective Timothy Paxton told the RO that the Richmond Memorial First Health staff, in conjunction with UNC Medical Center staff, went “above and beyond to save Mr. Windham’s life.”

After being transported (by medical helicopter) to UNC Medical Center, Mr. Windham underwent surgery to his injuries.  He is reported to be in “stable” condition at this time.

ORIGINAL RELEASE

ROCKINGHAM – Per Detective Timothy Paxton with the Rockingham Police Department, a local Rockingham man sustained self-inflicting wounds to his neck Tuesday evening at 6 p.m.

The incident occurred at the West Side Shell Station. The man is currently being treated for his injuries at UNC Medical Center in Chapel Hill, N.C. At the time of this publication, the man is in critical condition, and no further information was provided about the incident.
