ELLERBE — One person was killed Tuesday morning following a three-vehicle wreck.

The wreck happened around 7 a.m. at the intersection of U.S. 220 Business and Clayton Carriker Road, just north of Ellerbe, according to Bryan Cloninger with the Ellerbe Rescue Squad.

Cloninger said the wreck involved a Ford Ranger, Honda Accord and a tractor-trailer hauling live chickens.

Cloninger said the driver of the tractor-trailer was outside of the truck when he was struck and killed.

The drivers of the other vehicles were taken to FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital-Richmond for treatment, according to Cloninger.

The road was closed for several hours and re-opened sometime between 10:30 and 11 a.m.

The N.C. State Highway Patrol is investigating.

No other details are available at this time.

A call made to the Highway Patrol Tuesday afternoon had not yet been returned at the time of this writing.
