Tuesday’s Accident Report: Hit-and-Run Near Downtown Rockingham

ROCKINGHAM — At 6:15 p.m. on Monday afternoon, Rockingham Fire Department was dispatched to a vehicle accident at the intersection of Leak Street and South Hancock Street near downtown Rockingham.

After the initial collision, it’s was reported that one of the vehicles involved left the scene. Following a brief investigation, the Richmond County Sheriff’s Department apprehended the suspected driver who fled the scene. The alleged fleeing driver was found a few blocks away from the crash site.

The occupant of the other vehicle was transported to the hospital by First Health Richmond EMS. Rockingham Police Department is investigating the accident, and the Richmond Observer will follow up this incident as more information is released.
