ROCKINGHAM — Two more Richmond County residents have tested positive for COVID-19.

The Richmond County Health Department announced in its update Monday that the total number of coronavirus cases has risen to 114.

The N.C. Department of Health and Human Services showed the county having 115 cases.

County Health Director Dr. Tommy Jarrell said that his office on Monday morning spoke with one of the patients diagnosed last week and found out that she no longer lives in Richmond County.

The state pulls its numbers at 5 a.m. and the local health department wasn’t able to get it changed before the state’s update, he said. Jarrell added that that case has been transferred to the county in which the patient currently resides.

No new recoveries have been reported since Saturday when that number was 42.

None of the recent cases, including the eight reported on Saturday, are connected to any local industry, Jarrell said.

Four of the county’s earlier cases were tied to an outbreak at a nursing home in Pinehurst and there were several who tested positive at Burlington Industries and Perdue Farms.

Only one patient is currently hospitalized and 69 are under home isolation.

Of all the tests performed on Richmond County residents, 730 results have returned negative.

The total number of cases by age group are as follows:

  • Birth-18 – 5
  • 19-30 – 15
  • 31-40 – 13
  • 41-50 – 28
  • 51-64 -31

The number of cases per ZIP code are as follows:

  • Rockingham – 71 (27 recoveries)
  • Hamlet – 38 (12 recoveries)
  • Ellerbe – four (two recoveries)
  • Hoffman – 1 (recovered)

The total number of coronavirus cases statewide has risen to 19,023 in 99 counties. Avery County still has not had a single confirmed case of COVID-19.

There have been 1,041 new cases reported since Saturday.

The state will update its estimated number of recoveries by 4 p.m. Monday. Last week, that number was 9,115.

The state has attributed 661 deaths, including two in Richmond County, two the coronavirus.

Three counties — Mecklenburg, Wake and Durham — have reported more than 1,000 cases. Those counties are among the six most-populated in the state, with Mecklenburg and Wake being the largest.

Mecklenburg has had 2,652 positive cases and Wake has had 12,039.
