ROCKINGHAM — The new month started with the Richmond County Health Department reporting two new cases of COVID-19.

This brings the county’s total since April 7 to 163.

The N.C. Department of Health and Human Services is reporting 165 cases.

One of the new cases is in the 41-50 age group, the other was a child 18 years old or younger.

Of the tests performed, 1,073 have been negative.

The Health Department also reported that three more patients have recovered for the coronavirus, making 73 in all.

Statewide, there have been 421,908 individuals tested with 26,293 being positive.

DHHS reports that 650 North Carolinans are currently hospitalized and 898 deaths have been been attributed to the coronavirus.

For weeks, there has been a discrepancy in the numbers reported by DHHS and the Moore County Health Department.

The county reports 224 cases while the state only shows 2017.

Health officials in the Palmetto State estimate there could be hundreds of more people in those counties who are infected but have not yet been tested.
