UNC Pembroke climbs in U.S. News college rankings

UNC Pembroke rose nine spots in the latest U.S. News & World Report Best Colleges rankings.

UNCP is ranked No. 56, placing it in the top half of 136 regional universities in the South. UNCP appeared in six other categories, including a No. 11 ranking in Most Innovative Schools. The university landed in the No. 13 spot in Top Performers on Social Mobility, No. 22 in Top Public Schools, No. 50 in Best Value Schools, and ranked 206th in Best Undergraduate Nursing.

In its 38th year, the U.S. News & World Report’s latest edition assesses 1,500 U.S. bachelor’s degree-granting institutions on 17 measures of academic quality to determine each school’s overall score and, by extension, its overall rank.

The report uses multiple measures to capture each college’s various dimensions of academic quality. They fall into nine broad areas: graduation and retention, graduation rate performance, graduate indebtedness, social mobility, faculty resources, expert opinion, financial resources, student excellence and alumni giving.

Social mobility measures how well schools graduate students who receive federal Pell Grants, given to students from households whose family incomes are less than $50,000 annually.
