UNCP assistant prof appointed to Social Services Commission

PEMBROKE— Assistant professor Dr. Cindy Locklear has been appointed by Gov. Roy Cooper to the North Carolina State Social Services Commission.

Locklear will represent the 9th Congressional District. The Social Services Commission is tasked with developing administrative rules for the Division of Social Services. 

“I am thankful for the opportunity to serve, for my social work faculty colleagues, students and all the dedicated social workers and social services professionals from this region,” Locklear said.

“I am looking forward to meeting more social service providers and community members to gather their input for the commission.” 

Locklear has 14 years of social work experience in direct practice, teaching, administration and program development. 

She joined the UNCP faculty in 2010 where she serves as Bachelor of Social Work program director and interim Master of Social Work field director. She earned her bachelor’s degree in social work from UNCP, a Master of Social Work degree from Fayetteville State University, and a Doctorate in Social Work from the University of St. Thomas-St. Catherine University School of Social Work.
