HAMLET – Last month, all across Richmond County, volunteers from the United Way scattered to kick off this year’s fundraising campaign by giving back to help others in our community for their ninth annual “Day of Caring.”

United Way of Richmond County Executive Director Michelle Parrish said her board of directors revealed the 2019 campaign goal at the Cole Auditorium where volunteers coordinated before leaving for one of the ten project locations.

This goal for the upcoming year is the same as 2018’s goal of $300,000.

United Way of Richmond County works with seventeen agencies that provide unique programs of work to meet the needs in our community.

Their partnering agencies are: Back Pack Pals; Boy Scouts; Girl Scouts; Leak Street Alumni; Richmond County 4H Clubs; Sandhills Children Center; Richmond County Schools Exceptional Children; Richmond County Aging Services; Samaritan Colony; Habitat for Humanity; Pee Dee Pregnancy Resource Center; Richmond County Literacy Council; American Red Cross; Our Daily Bread; New Horizon’s Life and Family Services; Richmond County Rescue Squad; and the Salvation Army.

Around 150 volunteers worked on beautification, packing food bags, organizing; landscaping, serving meals at all three of our senior centers and distributing food bags.

“We are always so blessed to have so many volunteers willing to give back and participate with our annual Day of Caring,” says Parrish.
