UPDATE: Hamlet Shooting Suspect Turns Himself In

HAMLET – An arrest has been made by the Hamlet Police Department subsequent to a Thursday night shooting in Hamlet.

Devion Marquis Ward of 211 Mill Road, Rockingham, turned himself in at approximately 4 p.m. on Friday, October 13.

Calls came in to the HPD late Thursday, October 12, that shots had been heard in the area of the Hamlet Food Mart on King Street.

Officers arriving at the scene found the victim on Washington Avenue near Washington Court Apartments with a bullet wound to his lower left leg.

The injury was not life-threatening but the victim was taken by EMS to FirstHealth Richmond Memorial Hospital for emergency treatment. He was then transported to another hospital for further treatment. and was then transported .

Ward, 21, has been formally charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury. He was booked at Richmond County Jail and is being held on a secured bond of $50,000.
