ROCKINGHAM – Emergency responders were dispatched Monday morning around 10:50 a.m. to a single vehicle accident on Highway 1 in front of the Waffle House.
After hitting the curb the vehicle slid into the guard rail.
Occupants in the vehicle stated that the driver was using his cell phone and took his eyes off of the highway, thus causing the accident.
One occupant was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Responding units were the East Rockingham Fire Department; Cordova Fire/Rescue; First Health Richmond EMS; Richmond County Sheriff’s Office; and North Carolina Highway Patrol.
