Veteran’s Day Motorcycle Ride and BBQ Cook-Off Scheduled at Laurinburg’s Smithfield’s Hog Production

LAURINBURG – Veteran’s Day is a time to recognize local military members. But it’s also a time to celebrate their accomplishments, while also saying “thank you.”

On Saturday, November 11, Smithfield Hog Production Division – West Region Office, which is located at 325 McKay Street, Laurinburg, will hold its sixth annual Bike Run, as well as its fourth annual BBQ Cook-Off to commemorate veterans.

The event was started six years ago to help North Carolina’s military members, as well as veterans. This year, all proceeds raised will go to “Operation North State,” a non-profit organization that offers military support service programs to North Carolina’s deployed and veterans in need.

Sign-ups for the bike ride will begin at 9 a.m. at 325 McKay Street in Laurinburg, and kickstands will go up at 10 a.m. The cost to participate will be $15 per rider, or $20 per couple. The ride will be approximately 70 miles.

After the riders return, the BBQ cook-off competition will begin, showcasing pork loins, butts, and ribs. This year, Smithfield’s has announced there will be people selected from the crowd to do the judging.

An auction will begin after the cook-off, in which there will be a lot of items up for bid to benefit veterans and active military members. There will also be free food, drinks and a 50/50 raffle.
