Victim’s name released in Hoffman homicide

HOFFMAN — The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office has released the name of a man who was killed late Tuesday night.

Sheriff James Clemmons identified the victim as 24-year-old Nijamel Jaque Goodwin of Hamlet.

Clemmons said Goodwin was deceased when deputies arrived at the Hoffman Community Center on U.S. 1 N after receiving the call.

The incident was reported at 10:03 p.m., according to investigators.

The official cause of death is still unknown, pending a report from the medical examiner, Clemmons said.

No arrests had been made as of 10 a.m. and the case is still under investigation.

The sheriff encourages anyone with information to reach investigators by calling 911 or Richmond County Crime Stoppers at 910-997-5454.

This is the second homicide involving a Hamlet resident within a week.

The body of 17-year-old Malachi Jaheim Hailey was found last Tuesday behind the Dobbins Heights Community Center.

A cause of death has not yet been released in that case.
