WARRANT: Ellerbe woman robs men with hammer

ELLERBE — A woman with pending charges in two other counties is accused of robbing two men at hammer-point.

According to warrants from the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office, 36-year-old Susan Kaye Bowers, of Bowers Lane in Ellerbe, broke into a building on Hudson Drive in Ellerbe on July 25.

That building was reportedly occupied by two men, whom Bowers allegedly threatened with a hammer before stealing a Craftsman generator, a window air conditioner unit, an iphone, a drill and a flashlight.

Bowers was arrested Aug. 6 and charged with one felony count each of robbery with a dangerous weapon, second-degree kidnapping and breaking and entering.

She is being held in the Richmond County Jail under a $150,000 secured bond and is scheduled to appear in court Aug. 20.

Online court records show Bowers has multiple criminal charges already pending in Richmond, Lee and Montgomery counties.

She has court appearances scheduled Sept. 4 in Richmond and Sept. 29 in Lee for misdemeanor larceny.

Bowers is also charged with the following in Montgomery County: two misdemeanor counts of possession of drug paraphernalia; two misdemeanor counts of larceny by changing the price tag; one misdemeanor count each of larceny, shoplifting, possession of stolen goods, and simple possession of a Schedule IV controlled substance.

She is also facing one felony count each of: possession with intent to manufacture, sell or deliver a Schedule II controlled substance; and possession of methamphetamine.

Bowers’ only previous criminal conviction, according to records with the N.C. Department of Public Safety Division of Adult Correction, was in 2014 for selling or delivering a Schedule II controlled substance in Richmond County.

All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
