WARRANT: Man tried to pawn stolen softball equipment

ROCKINGHAM — A convicted felon is facing new charges, accused of trying to pawn stolen sports equipment.

According to an arrest warrant, 38-year-old David Sean Davies, of Bunker Street, stole several pieces of sports equipment on Aug. 11: a softball bag; seven softball bats; three softball gloves; three batting gloves; 12 softballs; and a pair of Costa sunglasses.

Davies then allegedly tried to pawn the equipment for $300 at a Rockingham pawn shop.

He was arrested Aug. 12 and charged with one felony count each of larceny, possession of stolen goods or property and attempting to obtain property by false pretenses.

He was booked into the Richmond County Jail under a $10,000 secured bond and is scheduled to appear in court Aug. 27.

Jail records show Davies is being held on a $5,000 secured bond for two felony out-of-county probation violations and an additional $2,000 secured bond for a misdemeanor out-of-county probation violation.

Records with the N.C. Department of Public Safety Division of Adult Correction show Davies was given a 36-month suspended sentence in 2018 when convicted in Hoke County on three felony counts of larceny by an employee and one felony count each of larceny and breaking and entering.

He was also given a suspended sentence in 2019 following a Moore County conviction of injury to personal property.

In 2005, Davies was convicted of felony conspiracy in Hoke County and misdemeanor possession of a Schedule VI controlled substance in Moore County.

All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
