ROCKINGHAM — Narcotics investigators with the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office reportedly found drugs and a handgun while executing a search warrant this week.
According to the application for the search warrant, investigators said a confidential informant purchased heroin during a controlled buy from 59-year-old William David Scott at his Westside Drive home.
Investigators requested to search Scott’s residence, person and “any vehicle in apparent control of the property.”
The warrant was executed at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday and, according to an inventory sheet, deputies seized: a bag of methamphetamine; a bag of heroin; two needles; a “meth smoking pipe;” rolling papers; a set of scales; rolling papers; a Lorcin 9mm handgun and 115 grain bullets; and $51 in cash.
Scott was arrested and charged with one felony count each of possession of heroin; possession of methamphetamine; maintaining a vehicle, dwelling or place for a controlled substance; and selling or delivering a Schedule I controlled substance.
He is also charged with two misdemeanor counts of possession of drug paraphernalia.
Scott was booked into the Richmond County Jail where he remained Thursday afternoon under a $35,000 secured bond.
Online records with the N.C. Department of Public Safety Division of Adult Correction show Scott has not been in trouble with the law in a decade, since he was released in 2008 after serving nine years for robbery with a dangerous weapon.
The first conviction listed on his publicly available record was for possession of a firearm by a felon, recorded as a misdemeanor, in 1981.
He was subsequently convicted of driving while impaired, writing worthless checks and misdemeanor larceny and possession of a Schedule I controlled substance, all between 1985 and 1990.
In 1991, Scott was convicted on two counts of violating drug laws and misdemeanor larceny in Montgomery County and death by vehicle in Richmond County in 1992, resulting in a probation revocation and prison sentence.
He was released in 1995 and convicted of driving with a revoked license and carrying a concealed weapon in Anson County in 1997. His probation was revoked on those charges and he again wound up behind bars.
Records show Scott was released in October of 1998 and committed the aforementioned robbery with a dangerous weapon the following month.
All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
