ROCKINGHAM — Two more people have been charged for allegedly having methamphetamine.
According to warrants, 35-year-old Jonathan Eugene Hoffman, of Edward Circle, and 29-year-old Ashley Marie Hoffman, who listed as being homeless and having an address on Safie Fifth Street, were caught by a Richmond County sheriff’s deputy Monday with an unspecified amount of meth.
The warrants allege the two were using a 2003 Chrysler Seabring to keep and sell the drug, though no selling charges have been filed.
They were arrested and each charged with one felony count each of possession of methamphetamine and maintaining a vehicle, dwelling or place for a controlled substance.
Jonathan Hoffman was also charged with possession of a stolen firearm for allegedly having a Fabrique Nationale d’Armes de Guerre 7.62mm rifle that was the property of someone else, according to a warrant.
He is being held in the Richmond County Jail under a combined $25,000 secured bond. Ashley Hoffman is being held under a $15,000 secured bond.
They are scheduled to appear in court July 25.
Records with the N.C. Department of Public Safety Division of Adult Correction show Jonathan Hoffman was convicted of simple assault or affray in 2003 and maintaining any place for a controlled substance in 2007, both misdemeanors.
His probation on the drug charge was revoked the following year and he spent just more than a month behind bars.
Ashley Hoffman was convicted in May of violating the school attendance law, records show.
Wednesday afternoon, jail records showed there were eight people being held on meth charges.
While most are just charged with possession, Timothy Ott is charged with selling and trafficking (among other drug charges), and Daniel and Tricia Kern are accused of manufacturing meth.
There have been more than a dozen meth arrests in Richmond County since April.
All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
