ROCKINGHAM — A woman is facing charges for allegedly making purchases with a financial card that was reported stolen the same day.
According to arrest warrants, 26-year-old Laquanich Shawnquaile Byrd, of Mizpah Road, used a stolen card to obtain two cellphones and two phone cards from Walmart on Sept. 19.
The card was included among the items stolen from a 2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee on Foushee Street earlier that day, according to an incident report from the Rockingham Police Department. Other items stolen included a Louis Vuitton purse, Tory Burch wallet, sunglasses, $500 in cash, assorted gift cards and $150 in makeup items.
Byrd has not been charged in the reported break-in or theft, but is charged with two felony counts each of identity theft and obtaining property by false pretenses and one count of felony conspiracy.
The alleged co-conspirator has not yet been charged.
Byrd was arrested Monday and released on a $25,000 unsecured bond and is scheduled to appear in court Oct. 3.
Online court records show she has an appearance scheduled for Oct. 2 on charges from the N.C. State Highway Patrol for driving with a revoked license and having an open container or consuming alcohol in the passenger area.
Records with the N.C. Department of Public Safety, which have her listed as “Laquanica Shawnquail” Byrd, show she was given a 12-month suspended sentence in June following a conviction on a school attendance law violation.
All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
