ROCKINGHAM — A career milestone was achieved by Jaymia Lindsey during Richmond Senior High School’s win Tuesday.

Lindsey, a  junior point guard, scored her 1,000th career point as part of the Lady Raiders’ 68-44 victory over Lee County High School.

Playing in her 46th career game with Richmond, Lindsey recorded her 1,000th career point following a steal and easy layup with 4:45 remaining in the first quarter.

Entering the game, Lindsey needed just seven points to reach the historic mark. Head coach Teddy Moseley called a timeout to let the future NC A&T State player soak in the moment.

Lindsey’s feat came 16 games into her junior season, her comeback year after missing all but four games as a sophomore due to a knee injury.

Finishing the game with a season-high 35 points, Lindsey now has 1,028 career points. She’s averaging 22.3 points per game in her career.

Helping her get to 1,000 points, Lindsey scored 30+ points four times during her freshman season and twice this winter. Her career-high 45 points were scored against Union Pines on Fed. 16, 2022.

Not to be overshadowed, the Lady Raiders won their fifth straight game and remained undefeated in Sandhills Athletic Conference action.

Sophomore guard Jasiah Gilchrist and freshman forward Madisen Jackson scored 18 and 10 points, respectively. Also scoring were senior Ryelan Lyerly (three points) and junior Rena Drake (two points).

Lindsey almost had a triple-double — she added 10 rebounds and eight assists, along with four steals. Jackson matched her 10 boards and Drake pulled in seven rebounds, while Gilchrist swiped eight steals.

A 9-0 run to start the second quarter put the Lady Raiders up 28-8. Lindsey, Gilchrist and Jackson contributed to the run.

Lee County answered with its own 9-0 run to pull its deficit to 28-17 midway through the quarter. Lindsey scored the game’s next five points on a bucket and three free throws.

In the final minute, Drake, Lindsey and Gilchrist combined to score seven points to put Richmond ahead 40-17 at the break.

Four players scored for Richmond as part of a 17-point quarter in the third. Lee County netted 18 points.

Two baskets and a free throw gave Lindsey five more points, while Gilchrist followed the same stat line to cap her scoring. Jackson knocked in a pair of field goals and Lyerly made a free throw and a bucket.

Up 57-35 entering the fourth quarter, Lindsey scored nine of Richmond’s final 11 points. She connected on four more field goals and added a free throw.

Jackson scored Richmond’s final two points in the paint in the closing minute of regulation.

Leading the Lady Yellow Jackets (5-6, 1-3 SAC) in scoring were Gillian Garrison (21 points) and Kelyce Mcswain (six points).

Richmond (12-4, 5-0 SAC) will host non-conference Pine Forest (6-7*) Wednesday at 6 p.m.
