Aaron Coleman: The Official Richmond County Male Student-Athlete of the Week

ROCKINGHAM — Sophomore Aaron Coleman has been named the Official Richmond County Male Student-Athlete of the Week presented by HWY 55.

Competing for the Richmond Senior High School track and field team, Coleman’s efforts in several events helped the Raiders notch a big win at the Timberwolf Invitational over the weekend.

A first-year transfer student to Richmond this spring, Coleman also received his first career recognition.

“ON TRACK” WITH AARON COLEMAN

The Richmond boys’ track and field team showed out on Saturday, taking first place out of 13 teams in an invitational hosted by Montgomery Central High School.

Of the team’s 131 points, which were seven points more than second-place Union Pines High School, Coleman secured 18 points across two individual events. As part of a relay race, he helped add eight more points.

Coleman impressed with a win in the 110-meter hurdles, collecting 10 points for the Raiders in that event. He crossed the finish line in 16.01 seconds, well ahead of Union Pines’ Caleb Milton, who finished second with a time of 17.30 seconds.

In his other individual event, the 300-meter hurdles, Coleman racked up eight more points with a second-place finish.Completing the race in 42.83 seconds, Coleman was just behind Southern Guilford’s Nick Blackston (41.21 seconds).

Richmond has also done well all season in the 4×100-meter relay race, which saw Coleman run the second leg on Saturday. Along with teammates Jamarion Bryant, Keonta Pegues and Taye Spencer, Richmond earned second place and eight points (43.64 seconds) behind Southern Guilford (43.35 seconds).

Coleman also ran in the open 100-meter dash, clocking in at 14.61 seconds, but didn’t place.

The Raiders will compete in another Sandhills Athletic Conference meet at Lee County High School on Thursday. Events will begin at 4 p.m.
