HAMLET — Another win for the Hamlet Middle School boys’ basketball team on Monday kept the Red Rams’ perfect season intact.

Hamlet and head coach Keith Parsons hosted cross-county opponent Cordova Middle School and defeated the Cavaliers 58-18. All eight players for Hamlet contributed to the win.

Three Red Rams finished the game with 13 points — Amer Morrison, Zamarion Robinson and Terande Spencer.

Finishing with a double-double was Spencer, who added 24 rebounds. Robinson chipped in nine rebounds and added four steals.

The game’s leading scorer was Donovan Jones, who scored 14 points for the Cavaliers. He had five points in the first half before adding nine points in the second half.

Hamlet struggled with its shooting at the start of the game. Seven minutes and ten seconds into the game, Cordova led 4-0. In the final 2:50 of the opening quarter, the Red Rams scored 11 points as part of a 24-0 run that carried over into the second quarter.

Aggressive defense and rebounding contributed to that run which included six fast break points off of steals and eight putback points.

After a Cordova free throw broke the streak, Robinson scored six points in just over a minute. He turned two steals into easy baskets and netted a putback off of his own miss.

The Red Rams took a commanding 29-7 lead into the break and they never looked back.

Like Robinson, Morrison used speed and defense to convert turnovers into quick points throughout the game. Spencer dominated the offensive glass, with 10 of his 13 points scored on putbacks.

Also contributing for Hamlet was Chamaure Shaw, who scored 9 points and had 8 rebounds and 6 steals. Adrion Pore had a season-high 4 points, and A.J. James scored 2 points and had 11 rebounds.

Rounding out the scoring for Hamlet were Dougie Dickerson and Dane Cipriani, who each had 2 points.

Scoring 2 points each for the Cavaliers were Yusaun Harrison and Demonte Martin.

Hamlet improved to 7-0 and will travel to in-county opponent Ellerbe Middle School on Thursday and play at 5 p.m.
