“IN THE NET” WITH ALLIE RODGERS

Richmond played two non-conference games last week and tallied a pair of one-goal victories.

The Lady Raiders defeated Jack Britt High School 5-4 to open the season and followed with a 3-2 victory over Uwharrie Charter Academy in their home opener.

Rodgers started her senior campaign with a hat trick against the Lady Buccaneers and scored twice against the Lady Eagles. In both games, Rodgers netted the eventual game-winning goal.

On the road at Jack Britt, Rodgers scored a goal in the first half to give Richmond a 2-1 lead. She made a run down the left side before sending a shot into the net.

Adding to the team’s lead early in the second half, Rodgers scored again to make it 4-2. She added her final goal, Richmond’s fifth, off a header on a near post run during a corner kick.

Playing on their home pitch against Uwharrie Charter, Rodgers scored Richmond’s first and third goals as part of the victory.

In the 10th minute she headed in another goal off a corner kick, redirecting the ball just under the crossbar to make it a 1-0 lead.

Early in the second half, with the score tied 2-2, Rodgers took a pass from Mariana Gonzalez and found twine for the second time in the game.

Through two matches this season, Rodgers leads the Lady Raiders with five goals. That puts her second in the Sandhills Athletic Conference behind Gillian Garrison of Lee County High School (six goals).

The Lady Raiders (2-0) will play twice this week, starting with a home match against non-conference Terry Sanford High School Wednesday at 7 p.m.
