HAMLET — The rich history of Hamlet American Legion baseball will have its night under the lights this week.
Head coach Chip Gordon announced that Post 49 will host an alumni night during the team’s final regular-season home game on Thursday.
“We have been very grateful for being able to bring American Legion baseball back to Hamlet these last two summers,” Gordon said. “This program wouldn’t be what it is today without all of the players and coaches from the past.
“This alumni game will give them a chance to come out to Memorial Park and be recognized,” he added. “We want them to know how much we appreciate them and let the fans celebrate them.”
Post 49, which is currently 10-7 this season, will host Wilmington Post 10 Veterans on Thursday.
Prior to the start of the game, all of the Post 49 alumni players and coaches in attendance will be introduced and called onto the field.
They will stand with the team during the National Anthem and a celebratory first pitch will be thrown.
For any former player or coach wanting to participate in the event, Gordon has asked them to contact him prior to noon on July 6.
Gordon will need the player or coach’s name and year(s) played for Post 49. He can be reached at 910-995-2496 or jcgordon21@gmail.com.
Action against Post 10 will start at 7 p.m. Hamlet is in contention for the Area 2 playoffs, which will begin with a three-game series on July 10.
