“SCORING GOALS” WITH CHEYENNE JACOBS

Jacobs entered last week with three assists on her stat sheet, but hadn’t scored any goals in the opening three games. She changed that two two-goal performances in victories over the Lady Pirates and Lady Rams.

As part of a 4-0 shutout win over Lumberton on Monday, Jacobs added to a 2-0 halftime lead.

Her first goal of the season came in the 60th minute on an assist from sophomore midfielder Hanna Smith. With Richmond rushing down the field on a counter, Smith made a smooth pass into the box for Jacobs to beat the keeper.

Just five minutes later, Jacobs found the back of the net on a similar play, this time unassisted. After collecting a pass, Jacobs moved around a defender and tallied the game’s final goal from close range.

Jacobs followed that two-goal outing on Wednesday with two more in a 3-2 win over Purnell Swett. Richmond scored all three of its goals in the first half, starting with junior Allie Rodgers, helping extend the team’s winning streak to five games.

Helping take a 3-0 lead in the span of five minutes, Jacobs made it 2-0 in the 23rd minute. Taking possession of the ball after a defender deflected it inside the six-yard box, Jacobs moved to her right before taking an angled shot across the box to the back post.

In the 25th minute, Jacobs scored the eventual game-winning goal when she scored on a similar play. Taking a couple of touches to give herself more space, Jacobs chipped the ball into the net to make it a 3-0 lead.

Through six matches this spring, Jacobs is second on the team with 4 goals and leads the Lady Raiders with 3 assists.
