Cordova, Hamlet boys basketball earn second wins

The Cordova and Hamlet boys basketball teams both earned their second wins of the season on Monday.

CORDOVA — For the second straight game to start the season, Jamarion Wall and Jamison Jones teamed up to help the Cordova Middle School boys’ basketball team earn a win.

Hosting Spring Hill Middle School on Monday, the Cavaliers rolled to a 55-27 victory. Wall finished as the game’s leading scorer, the second time he’s done that this season, with a season-high 25 points. In the Cavs’ opener last week against Sandy Grove, Wall had 22 points.

Jones also topped his previous season high as he dropped 18 points against the Spartans. Joining the scoring outburst were Chris Grey and Isaiah Lockhart, both of whom finished with 6 points. Teammate Carson Thomas snagged a team-high 10 rebounds.

During the first half, the Cavs and the Spartans kept it close with the home team taking a 24-19 lead into the break. Out of the locker room it was all Cordova, which outscored Spring Hill 31-8 in the final two periods.

“I’m pleased with the team’s effort both offensively and defensively,” head coach Gerald Ratliff said. “Also a thank you to coach Terrell Hollingsworth.”

Now 2-0 on the season, the Cavs will head into the Christmas holiday break and face West Hoke Middle School on the road on Monday, Jan. 6.
