“CATCHING THE FACTS” WITH DALTON STROMAN

RSHS Academics: Back at Richmond for his junior year, Stroman is taking several classes this semester. He’s enrolled in English III with Mr. Tad Hamilton, Career Management with Ms. Lisa Campbell, Physical Science with Coach Chris Dennis and Weight Training with Coach Brad Denson.

Stroman is an A/B student who has a 2.6 GPA. He noted he enjoys science because he gets to spend time with Coach Dennis in the classroom, while also learning about the material.

During the winter, Stroman is a member of the Raider basketball team and will look to help the varsity team this year after spending two years on junior varsity. He’s also a high jumper on the track and field team in the spring, and participates in the 200-meter dash and the 4×100 meter relay.

Future Plans: Just before the team’s season opener last Friday, Stroman and teammates Caleb Hood and Jakolbe Baldwin all received official offers from Duke University. It was Stroman’s first college football offer, and the junior hopes to continue to see more come his way over the next two seasons.

While he still has some time to decide, Stroman said his dream school is Clemson University. Aside from liking the orange uniforms, Stroman said he’s been looking at colleges for a while and thinks Clemson is a top university. He added that the Tigers winning multiple national championships the past couple years is also a big factor. Stroman says he wants to study computer science.

Athlete of the Week Stats: Against the Comets, Stroman only caught two passes, but both would result in the junior wideout scoring. He also led all receivers for both teams with 118 yards receiving.

In the first quarter and on Richmond’s third play from scrimmage on its opening drive, Stroman reeled in a pass from Hood along the near sideline. He curled inside past a would-be tackler and used his speed to sprint down the field untouched to the end zone for a 41-yard score to give the Raiders an early one-score advantage.

Following a 55-yard touchdown run by senior running back Jaheim Covington, Stroman again wowed fans on the first play of Richmond’s third drive. Hood dropped back deep in his own zone and launched a perfectly placed ball that hit Stroman in stride, seeing him again trot past the goal line untouched, this time from 77 yards out.

Coaches Corner: Third-year head coach Bryan Till acknowledged several of Stroman’s attributes, including his height, speed and football IQ. All three, he said, give Stroman an advantage over opposing defensive backs and makes him a good target for Hood to connect with.

“Starting all last year and being forced into that role when Malik (Stanback) got injured really helped him,” Till said. “Physically, we knew he was capable and now he has a year of playing at the varsity level and he understands the game so much better. He understands defenses and his confidence level has allowed him to do these things.

“Dalton had a tremendous offseason in the weightroom and he’s really hard to guard,” he continued. “He’s a quiet guy but that demeanor helps him make those big plays. Dalton will do what he does and will do it at that level all the time. He has a very impressive demeanor.”
