HAMLET — A slight change has been made to an upcoming fundraiser to help a local baseball program.

The Hamlet American Legion baseball program is set to expand during the offseason and field both a senior and junior roster in 2024.

To help get ahead, head coach Chip Gordon announced last week that Post 49 will be holding a BBQ plate sale to raise money.

A change has been made to the event’s date, which will now be held on Friday, Oct. 6, a week earlier than originally planned.

As Post 49 prepares for its fourth season since returning after a nearly 15-year hiatus, Hamlet will coordinate with Richmond Senior High School’s baseball program and new head coach Eric Brown to create the junior Legion team.

The senior Legion team will still be open to Richmond’s players, as well as players from surrounding counties.

Order sheets are currently posted at local schools and business, or Gordon can be reached at 910-995-2496.
