DARLINGTON, S.C. — NASCAR announced Wednesday that Denny Hamlin’s wins in both the Monster Energy Cup Series and the Xfinity Series at Darlington Raceway have been encumbered.
Hamlin’s team was issued an L1 penalty for a rear suspension violation. Hamlin’s crew chief, Mike Wheeler, will also be suspended for the next two races (Richmond and Chicagoland). Wheeler was also fined $50,000.
In addition to the encumbered wins, the No. 11 team will also lose the season points and the playoff points they gained at Darlington.
Similar penalties were handed out to Kyle Busch and Joey Logano in the Xfinity Series for a rear suspension violation and Dale Earnhardt, Jr., was issued a safety penalty for loose lugnuts at the end of the Southern 500 race. His crew chief, Greg Ives, was fined $20,000 and suspended for one race.
