ROCKNGHAM — Three drivers who hoisted NHRA Wally trophies last week at the NHRA Virginia Nationals at Virginia Motorsports Park, did the same Saturday at Rockingham Dragway after prevailing in the fourth of six Lucas Oil Series events in the NHRA’s Southeast Division.

Richmond winners David Eaton, Jeff Longhany and John Labbous Jr. were reunited in The Rock’s winners’ circle on Saturday.

Eaton, the veteran from Merritt Island, Fla., took another step toward repeating as division champion in Competition Eliminator by driving his popular ’32 Bantam roadster past the Ford Escort of Danny Holt of Clinton, Tenn.

Wade’s Longhany got a free ride to the Stock Eliminator title in his 2000 Corvette when Clinton’s Steve Foley was guilty of a final round foul start and, after bowing out of Super Comp, the class in which he won at Richmond, Labbous scored in Super Gas, beating multiple time division champion and national event winner Steve Furr of Harrisburg in the final.

Vaughn Cauffield of Lake Placid, Fla., upset point leader Jeremy Hancock of Commerce, Ga., in Top Dragster final and Jacky Bennett of Palatka, Fla., beat Statesville’s Chad Morrison in a battle between old and new era Chevrolets to win in Top Sportsman.

Corey Taylor drove his ’68 Corvette past the Pontiac Grand Am of Cody Phillips in an all-Lumberton Super Stock final and, in so doing, moved around Austin Alvey of Taylorsville, Ky., and into the points lead.

The Super Comp hardware went to former national series champion Sherman Adcock Jr. of Cataula, Ga., and Mt. Airy’s Doug Ramsey powered to victory in Super Street in his ’68 Camaro.

In the Jr. Dragster division, Mallory Logan of North Chesterfield, Va., won the Advanced class and Matthew Peterson of Punta Gorda, Fla., repeated in the Intermediate class by beating last year’s Novice winner, Tanner Mocny of Venice, Fla.  Tanner’s younger sister, Kylie, succeeded him as the Novice winner.
