TROY — Competing in five team matches during a tournament Saturday, the Richmond Raider wrestling team earned one win at Montgomery Central High School.

Although the team went 1-4 overall, eight Raiders combined to collect 20 victories, nine of which came by pinfall.

“It was a good overall weekend of wrestling,” head coach Andre’ Ellerbe said. “Our guys went and wrestled tough against some out-of-conference teams. Some of our guys improved their records, while other guys had a chance to see where they had deficits and get them fixed in the process of five matches.

“We have ourselves refocused as we take on Hoke County and Scotland Wednesday and our conference tournament this Saturday at Pinecrest.”

Sophomore heavyweight Demonte Martin continued his impressive season, going 5-0 with four pins and one forfeit. Junior Jackson Hamilton (175-pounds) won four matches, including two pins and two forfeits.

Junior K’Mauri Morgan (215-pounds) slotted three victories — one pin, one forfeit and one due to an injury to his opponent.

A trio of Raiders — junior Adam Estridge (144-pounds), senior Jesus Castro (165-pounds) and sophomore Jason Gainey (190-pounds) — each had two wins.

Castro’s were both forfeits, Estridge had a pin and a major decision and Gainey earned one pin and one forfeit.

Notching one win apiece were sophomore Jordan Hamilton (215-pounds, pin) and freshman Konner Gardener (132-pounds, forfeit).

Richmond’s lone team win was a 36-21 victory over Southwestern Randolph High School.

The Raiders fell 61-18 to Montgomery Central, 68-12 to Oak Grove, 48-24 to Randleman and 54-28 to Thomasville.

Richmond (6-13, 1-3 Sandhills Athletic Conference) travels to Hoke County High School for its final regular-season match. The Raiders will wrestle the host Bucks and Scotland High School.
