Ellerbe soccer teams sweep Spring Hill

SPRING HILL — The Ellerbe Middle School soccer teams continued their respective successful campaigns on the road at Spring Hill on Wednesday.

Lady Wildcats notch another mercy-rule win

The Lady Wildcats have made it a habit the last couple of matches of shutting out their opponents in mercy-rule fashion.

During Wednesday’s match, Ellerbe defeated the Lady Spartans 6-0. Mariana Gonzalez Aguilar scored a hat trick for the Lady Wildcats, her third straight game doing so.

Three other teammates each scored one goal for Ellerbe to help secure the win — Yulissa Avalos, Kaylee Quick and Parker Rhyne.

Improving to 6-1 on the season, the Lady Wildcats and head coach Derek Anderson will host Sandy Grove Middle School on Tuesday.

Wildcats roll past Spartans

The Ellerbe boys’ soccer team also put up an impressive amount of goals against the Spartans, defeating Spring Hill 6-1.

Within the first 10 minutes of the match, Edin Carrillo scored a goal to give the Wildcats an early lead. Five minutes later, Adrian Zamora struck the back of the net to make it a two-goal lead.

Before the half, the Wildcats would add two more goals — one each from Izzy De Jesus and Zamora, his team-leading second goal of the match.

During the second half, Elen Fonseca scored a goal by hitting the bar to make it 5-0. Spring Hill got on the board with its lone goal following a penalty kick.

Adding an insurance goal in the final minutes for Ellerbe was German Fonseca.

Now 4-3 on the season, the Wildcats will also host Sandy Grove on Tuesday.
