“HEADING TO STATES” WITH EMERSON WALL

Part of the Raider track and field program for four years, Wall is making his first trip to the NCHSAA 4A state championship this weekend.

Joining him will be fellow teammates sophomore Aaron Coleman (110-meter hurdles) and junior Tyrene Stanback (high jump).

At the 4A Mideast regional, held at Green Level High School, Wall set a new personal record distance in the triple jump. He landed at a final mark of 43 feet, 10 inches.

The top-four finishers of each event qualified for states, and Wall’s mark was 2.75 inches farther than fifth-place jumper William Leak (43 feet, 7.25 inches).

Wall’s previous best mark of the season came in the Sandhills Athletic Conference championship leading up to the regionals, a mark of 43 feet even.

Wall, along with Coleman and Stanback, will compete in the NCHSAA 4A state championship on Saturday. The meet will be held at North Carolina A&T State University.

According to the NCHSAA’s final schedule for the 4A championship, Wall will be the first jumper out of 16 participants in the triple jump, starting at 10 a.m.
