ROCKINGHAM — Big rig racing will be returning to Rockingham Speedway with two events slated for this year.

Speedway officials announced Thursday night that drivers of the FASS Big Rig Series will be doing exhibition laps at the track’s 2022 kick-off event next weekend.

The series was at Rockingham last October as part of the Trucks Gone Wild East Coast Truck Jeep and Offroad Festival, with Oklahoman Justin Ball taking the checkered flag.

The speedway was the sixth of seven tracks on the series’ 2021 schedule.

The FASS series also has a race at the Rock scheduled for Sept. 24.

The announcement of the exhibition is the latest attraction for the open House on March 5.

Former NASCAR driver Donnie Allison will be signing autographs and Allison Legacy Racing will have a race on the track’s infield road course.

Attendees will also get a sneak peek of Motorsport 4the Masses’ Classic American Racing Barnstormer Series, which will open at Rockingham Speedway April 23 and close out Oct. 1.

M4theM owner Rob Bolling said CARBS events will feature vintage stock cars and include practice laps, qualifying and an exhibition race for “a living history experience.”

For those who want to round the legendary oval, M4theM will be offering ride-alongs and leading hot laps for attendees to take their own vehicles on the track. The cost is $35 in advance and $50 the day of the event.

Country singer Brandon Hartt, who last week released a music video shot at the track for his song “Good Years,” will be performing a short acoustic set during the event.

Justin Jones, vice president of operations, said there will also be bounce houses, food trucks and track merchandise — including a limited supply of vintage items.

Parking and admission for the open house are both free.

Rockingham Speedway has more than 30 events scheduled for this year and Jones said he is still finalizing details for more.
