LAURINBURG — A barrage of goals by the Lady Raider soccer team put it back in the win column on Monday.

Playing on the road at rival Scotland High School, Richmond kept the Lady Scots off the board in a 5-0 shutout win.

The match was scheduled for Tuesday, but was moved up a day due to the possibility of rain. Richmond used five different goal scorers to cruise past Scotland.

Scoring one goal in the opening 40 minutes, the Lady Raiders tacked on four goals in the second half to conclude the first round of Sandhills Athletic Conference play.

Netting her first goal of the season in the 27th minute was senior Destiny Barrick. Collecting a loose ball inside the 18-yard box, she ran through it and found the back of the net.

“I thought we came out a little bit flat tonight and we weren’t crisp on connecting passes or winning the ball,” head coach Chris Larsen said. “But Destiny opened us up a little bit to help take some of the pressure off ourselves.

“In the second half, we were able to open it up a little more and the girls started playing more freely,” he added. “We looked more like ourselves, and it was good to get the win and beat the rain.”

Junior C’Nedra Hinson scored her fourth goal of the season in the 50th minute, netting a shot from 15 yards to make it a two-goal lead.

Just two minutes later, sophomore Gabby Lutz corralled a ball at the top of the 18-yard box on a failed clearing attempt and drilled it into the back of the net to make it a 3-0 advantage.

Capping the Lady Raiders’ scoring were freshman Jamyia Lindsey and sophomore Allie Rodgers. Both connecting on shots from inside the 6-yard box, Lindsey scored in the 64th minute and Rodges added her tally in the 78th minute.

“The biggest thing with having multiple scorers is the girls get to see their success,” Larsen explained. “And hopefully that success will come back to them moving forward since they know they can do it.

“This was a good win for us and I think we can carry this momentum with us with two more games this week and as we make the turn in conference play.”

The Lady Raiders (6-7, 2-4 SAC) will end the week with a road game at non-conference Cape Fear High School (6-2-1) on Thursday and start their second round of conference play with a road game at Southern Lee High School (4-4-1, 3-1 SAC) on Friday. Varsity will begin at 7 p.m.

Note: The Richmond junior varsity girls’ soccer team didn’t play on Monday since Scotland didn’t field a team this spring.
