Hamlet baseball defeats Anson Blue for first win

WADESBORO — The Hamlet Middle School baseball team opened its season on Tuesday with a win over Anson Middle School Blue.

The Red Rams defeated the Bearcats 9-2, with Evan Hodges earning the win on the mound. He threw a complete game and had 13 strikeouts. 

Leading the team at the plate was Steve James, who went 3-for-4 with two runs batted in. Hodges helped his cause with two hits in his four at-bats, while also recording one RBI.

Hamlet’s leading run producer was Keith Cummings, who drove in a game-high 4 RBIs on two hits at the plate. Hayden Wheeler and Drew Gause both went 2-for-4, with Wheeler driving in a run.

Rounding out the offense for Hamlet was Michael Osentowski, who was 1-for-2 with an RBI.

Hamlet (1-0) will return to action on Thursday with a home game against Anson Orange. First pitch is set for 4 p.m.
