WADESBORO, N.C. – It’s been a pretty good last 10 days for Richmond County middle school athletics.
Earlier this week, the Hamlet Middle School boys golf team won the 2017 Southeastern Middle School Athletic Conference championship at Twin Valley Country Club in Anson County.
With four Red Rams golfers shooting a combined 414 in the 18-hole tournament, it was enough to hold off Rockingham Middle School (426) by 12 strokes for the win.
The HMS victory also came against Ellerbe Middle School, and several middle schools from Anson, Hoke and Scotland Counties.
Leading the charge for the Red Rams was Cameron Way, who shot an impressive 95 (52 on the front, 43 on the back). He was also named the tournament’s top medalist.
Also a part of the championship squad were Brayden Bailey, Neal Butler and Caleb Talton. The Red Rams are coached by Phyllis Lupo.
